CarFest-2012 Petter Solberg Ford Fiesta WRC
Petter Solberg joined the line-up at this weekend's CarFest North at Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire.
The 37-year-old Norwegian, who won the World Rally Championship in 2003 and who currently competes for the Ford World Rally Team, confirmed his participation on both Saturday and Sunday when chatting live on air to event organiser Chris Evans on his Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 on Thursday.
Solberg put on a spectacular driving performance for the tens of thousands of festival goers at Cholmondeley and also set fire to some of the barriers with his over enthusiastic burnouts.
CarFest encapsulated Evans' dream of the perfect family festival featuring three of his greatest passions – great cars, live music and scrumptious food – while simultaneously raising much needed funds for BBC Children in Need.
The Ford Fiesta RS WRC is the World Rally Car built for the Ford World Rally Team by Ford and M-Sport for use in the 2011 World Rally Championship season.
It is based upon the Ford Fiesta road car, and will replace the Ford Focus RS WRC, which has been competing in various versions since 1999. It is also built to the new World Rally Car regulations for 2011, which are based upon the existing Super 2000 regulations, but is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine (1.6 L turbo Ford EcoBoost engine) rather than the normally aspirated 2-litre engine found in Super 2000 cars.
M-Sport and Ford introduced a Super 2000 version of the Ford Fiesta at the beginning of 2010, which will form the base of the WRC car.
