Peugeot’s EX1 Concept Nurburgring Lap Record (Worlds fastest Milk Float?)

Posted by: Tony Dewhurst | Comments (0)

I used to remember my days sat on the back of a stealth electric powered milk Float, Unaware that I was sat on the back of the future of automotive glory.

Now Peugeot has released a video showing the EX1 concept setting a new electric vehicle lap record at the Nürburgring.

Driven by Stéphane Caillet, the one-off prototype completed the 20.8 km Northloop in 9 minutes and 1.3 seconds at an average speed of 138.3 km/h (85.9 mph).

The sound is pretty bizarre coming from this car and is in need of some v8 forced induction to make the video complete, but the EX1 concept is powered by two electric motors that produce a combined output of 340 PS and immediately has 480 Nm torque.

Detailed performance specifications haven’t been announced, but the car previously set an unofficial EV acceleration record of 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds.

Peugeot 508 Allroad Spied ahead of Geneva

Posted by: Tony Dewhurst | Comments (0)

In Northern Sweden our spies have snapped, the high-riding Peugeot 508, testing in extreme winter conditions.

The new model is speculated to be called the Peugeot 508 SW Allroad.

The new car is aimed as direct competition to the Volvo XC60, Subaru Outback and the Skoda Scout, as well as the usual crossovers from Audi and Ford.

The car will feature Peugeot’s new Hybrid4 all-wheel drive system. This system combines a 122kW 2.0-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder engine with a 28kW electric motor.

The prototype is totally uncamouflaged as it is identical to the current 508, only recognisable by its higher suspension setup.

Reports say it will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

In parallel with its 2010 Peugeot 908 HDi FAP race programme, Peugeot Sport is busy designing and developing a new prototype that will defend its colours in 2011.

Peugeot Sport’s principal mission accomplished
Having been kept secret in Peugeot Sport’s factory in Vélizy, near Paris, the team’s new endurance challenger – known under the codename 90X – has been out for its first track test. “Our objective was to start track testing before the end of the year,” says Peugeot Sport Director Olivier Quesnel. “I am pleased to report that we have now done that. Even so, there is still a long way to go and a considerable amount of work to be done as we prepare for 2011.”

The 90X’s technical characteristics
The 90X complies with the new ACO’s 2011 regulations, and notably incorporates the extra “shark fin” bodywork on the engine cover. This new feature is designed to help prevent the car from becoming airborne in the case of a high-speed spin. As with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, Peugeot Sport has opted for a closed cockpit design, which still meets the mandatory 900kg weight requirement. “We are still exploring several options with regard to the engine and technology we will use,” points out Bruno Famin, the Technical Director of Peugeot Sport. “Work on the engine’s development is ongoing. Endurance racing is an ideal proving ground to provide us with the opportunity to showcase all the brand’s technologies.”

I Spotted the white cars on the 11-04-2010 TF also and can now confirm that these was the Peugeot Drivers.

The racing version of the Peugeot RCZ, was built to the series production standard and according to the rules of the class D1T for turbo diesel cars up to two liters of displacement. Its 2.0-liter HDi engine makes the car 147 kW / 200 PS.

PEUGEOT UK HEADS TO MONTE CARLO FOR ROUND 1 OF THE IRC

Peugeot UK heads to Monte Carlo for round 1 of the IRC
Monte Carlo Rally 2009 Peugeot 300x202 PEUGEOT UK HEADS TO MONTE CARLO FOR ROUND 1 OF THE IRC peugeot
The 2010 Monte Carlo rally is the first round of this year’s Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) and is perhaps the most famous rally there is, whether you are an ardent rally fan or just a motoring enthusiast.

This year is the seventy eighth running of the Monte Carlo rally which starts on Tuesday 19 January, with a single super special stage and finishes in Monte Carlo in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Last year, Peugeot dominated the rally by occupying all three top positions with its Peugeot 207 S2000, based on its road-going 207 hatchback. This year, however, the competition will be even fiercer with a total of eight manufacturers contesting the 2010 IRC – Peugeot, Ford, Fiat Abarth, Honda, Skoda, Subaru, Proton and Ralliart (Mitsubishi). It is a result of the strong support from the many different manufacturers and the extensive TV coverage provided by Eurosport that the IRC is now the chosen rally series of the Monte Carlo Rally organisers, instead of the World Rally Championship.

This year will also see Britain’s top two rally drivers go head to head over the 405 kms of the 15 special stages. Kris Meeke, 2009 IRC Drivers’ Champion, driving his Peugeot UK supported Peugeot 207 S2000 will take on Skoda UK supported Guy Wilks, twice British Rally champion in his Skoda Fabia S2000. It was seven years ago that two top British drivers were last battling on the Monte Carlo rally and their names were Colin McRae and Richard Burns.

Kris partnered again by co-driver Paul Nagle will start the rally as favourite after he dominated the IRC last year, winning four rounds on his way to winning the Drivers’ Championship and helping Peugeot secure its third consecutive Manufacturers’ title.

Unprecedented TV coverage provided by Eurosport will see all but one of the special stages screened live, enabling fans to see all the action, as it happens. Four live stages on Wednesday, six on Thursday and four on Friday can be found on Eurosport and Eurosport 2.

Fifteen special stages, 405 kms, snow and ice covered roads mixed with normal tarmac and three days of competitive rallying lie in front of the eventual winner of this year’s Monte Carlo Rally.

This year, after a full season in the IRC, Kris and Paul will be one of the favourites to win the rally and having tested extensively in snow and ice conditions, they cannot wait to get started!

In a stunning start to its 200th year, Peugeot has scored a magnificent hat trick in the prestigious 2010 What Car? Car of the Year Awards, winning two category awards as well as the overall Car of the Year title for the standard-setting Peugeot 3008 Crossover.

The 3008 is compact and spacious with a host of useful driving features available such as grip control, dynamic roll control, a heads-up display, distance alert and Hill Assist automatic electric parking brake. It successfully combines the best features of a saloon car, MPV, SUV and hatchback to deliver flexibility, space, rugged looks and driveability.

3008 also respects the environment with an efficient range of engine options producing emissions starting at just 130g of CO2 per kilometre. A hybrid version, available in 2011, will push the boundaries of low-emissions family motoring even further.

In fact, the 3008 has proven such a compelling all round package that What Car? introduced a new category to accommodate it: the Crossover. Naturally, 3008 was also crowned winner of this new category.
