Up in sweden our spies have captured the new Citroen DS5, the third model in the DS line-up.

The DS5 will use the same Citroen C5 platform as the recently spied Peugeot 508 Allroad, the design includes an higher ride height and a more coupé-like shape to recognise the DS design cues.

Powering the new DS5 will be conventional petrol and diesel engines, the DS5 will be Citroen’s first production hybrid, using a 200bhp diesel unit which drives the front wheels with the electrical drive from the rears.

A brand new updated hydropneumatic suspension is also on the cards to give independant suspension control for comfort or sea sickness.

We expect a production concept to be released in Shanghai Motor Show in April, we expect the production world premier at Frankfurt later this year.

Citroen had a good outing at the start of the 2011 WRC in their Citroën DS3 WRC finished fourth in Rally Sweden thanks to Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia. Their team-mates, Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena, came home sixth.
Also at this weekend WRC Citroen driver Petter Solberg’s co-driver Chris Patterson took control of the DS3 WRC.
Patterson was forced to take the wheel of the Citroen DS3 WRC after Solberg was banned from driving after being caught speeding on Friday afternoon.
The Norwegian was caught at 112kph in an 80kph limit. The law in Sweden states that if you are 30kph or more over the limit, you are banned instantly.
The very scripted response from Patterson stated “We were caught speeding and, like the everybody else, rally drivers have to obey the law,” said Patterson. “Road safety is a very important message in the World Rally Championship, we were caught and we paid the price.”
Patterson insisted he was under no pressure in the final stage of the rally, and that was shown by coming fifth place in front of factory driver Sébastien Loeb.
